Over the past few weeks, our enthusiastic Year 2 pupils have been diving into the world of music by learning to play the recorder. For many, it’s their very first experience with a musical instrument – and what a fantastic start they’ve made!
Beginning with the basics, the children have been learning how to hold the recorder correctly and produce a clear, confident sound. They have now mastered their first three notes – B, A and G – and are already playing simple tunes with growing fluency. It’s been wonderful to see their concentration and coordination developing as they practise each week, building the foundations of both musical understanding and performance confidence.
What’s even more exciting is that their hard work is building towards something special. The children are preparing for their first public performance at our Music for a Summer’s Evening concert this June. The event is a highlight of our summer term, and Year 2 are thrilled to be part of it. They will join other year groups in sharing the joy of live music with family and friends.
Learning the recorder is not just about music – it helps children develop listening skills, discipline, memory, and a sense of achievement. It also opens up a lifelong appreciation for the arts.
We’re so proud of how far Year 2 have come in such a short time, and we can’t wait to see them shine on stage next month. Keep practising, Year 2 – your audience is in for a treat!
