Friday 23rd May was no ordinary school day at Pennthorpe—it was Sports Day, the most anticipated sporting event in our school calendar! The sun shone on a day packed with energy, excitement, and extraordinary effort, as our pupils from Pre-Prep to Year 8 gave it their all on the field and the track.
Morning: Field Events & Pre-Prep Delight
The action began early with our Year 7 and 8 pupils opening the day with their field events—shot put, javelin, and long jump. As the morning unfolded, every year group in the Prep School had their chance to compete, with incredible demonstrations of skill, focus, and perseverance.
Meanwhile, our Pre-Prep children lit up the track with their boundless energy and infectious enthusiasm. They ran, threw, and leapt through a variety of fun, skill-building activities—earning cheers and applause from proud parents and teachers alike. As always, some of the most heartwarming highlights came from our EYFS children racing straight into their parents’ arms, while the Year 2s wowed us with their strength and stamina in a blistering 200m sprint.
Afternoon: All In – Pupils, Parents, and Staff!
After a much-needed lunch break, the spotlight shifted to the grown-ups, with parents and staff sprinting and relaying their way around the track. In a fiercely fought 4x50m relay, it was the staff who claimed victory, though parents are already plotting their revenge for next year!
The rest of the afternoon flew by in a flurry of track finals, a mighty tug of war, and the ever-thrilling Squadron Relay, which had the whole school on its feet. Every race was hard-fought, every medal earned, and every cheer well-deserved.
A Sports Day of Champions
The day culminated with the awarding of points across all events, leading to the much-anticipated House Placings. A huge congratulations to Tismans, who retained their trophy with an incredible all-round team performance!
We also saw school records shattered—a true testament to the strength and determination of our young athletes:
