On a crisp Tuesday evening, the Pennthorpe Eagles travelled to face Duke of Kent School for a 7:30pm fixture that promised competitive spirit and community warmth in equal measure. From the moment they arrived, the team from Pennthorpe School were made to feel incredibly welcome, setting the tone for what would be a thoroughly enjoyable evening of netball.

The match was played across four fast-paced quarters of eight minutes each, demanding sharp focus, fitness, and teamwork from both sides. Pennthorpe started strongly, settling into their rhythm early in the first quarter. Quick transitions through the court and confident shooting allowed the Eagles to edge ahead, finishing Q1 with a narrow but well-earned 8–6 lead.

Building on that momentum, the second quarter saw Pennthorpe grow in confidence. Their passing became more fluid, defensive pressure tightened, and the team began to convert more consistently in the shooting circle. The Eagles extended their advantage to 17–11 by half time, demonstrating both composure and determination.

After the break, Pennthorpe maintained their intensity. Disciplined defence disrupted Duke of Kent’s attacking flow, while accurate shooting ensured the scoreboard continued to tick in the Eagles’ favour. By the end of the third quarter, Pennthorpe had stretched their lead to 25–13, reflecting a sustained team performance built on communication and trust.

To their credit, Duke of Kent battled hard in the final quarter, showing resilience and sportsmanship throughout. However, Pennthorpe remained calm and controlled, managing the game effectively to secure a convincing 31–19 victory.

Beyond the scoreline, the evening was a wonderful example of school sport at its best. Duke of Kent were exceptional hosts, providing generous refreshments and fostering a welcoming atmosphere for players and supporters alike. We were especially delighted to be supported by the Head, Mrs Knox, who kindly assisted with scoring during the match. A particular highlight was the beautifully crafted netball-themed trophy, designed by the Duke of Kent DT department — a creative and thoughtful touch that Pennthorpe are proud to look after.

Our sincere thanks go to Duke of Kent for a fantastic evening of competitive, good-spirited netball. We are already looking forward to the return fixture.
