At Pennthorpe, we are always inspired by the compassion and creativity of our pupils, and this week, two of them have taken that spirit to a whole new level.
Arabella and Lexi have come up with a brilliant and heartwarming idea to support their brother Jasper, who lives with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. Their idea? A Duchenne Duvet Day—a fun, cosy way for the whole school community to show their support while raising funds for Duchenne UK, the leading charity working to find treatments and ultimately a cure for the condition.
What’s Happening?
On Monday, pupils are invited to come to school dressed in their favourite comfy clothes (please ensure that the clothes worn are appropriate for school and the shoes worn are suitable for outdoor play) in exchange for a £1 donation. Donations can be brought in as cash or made via JustGiving
To make the day even more relaxing, children are encouraged to bring along their favourite teddy, blanket or cushion to enjoy a special movie and snack session during the day.
Wristbands for a Cause
Arabella and Lexi will also be selling specially chosen wristbands for £2 each, available outside of school at drop-off and pick-up on Monday. The colour of the wristbands is a meaningful one as it reflects the same colour as the medical wristband Jasper wears every day. All proceeds from the wristbands will go directly to Duchenne UK.
A Message from Arabella and Lexi:
“As many of you know, our brother Jasper has a condition called Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. We thought a positive way we could show our support as a school was to organise a Duchenne Duvet Day to raise money for the charity, Duchenne UK.
Thank you so much, and we look forward to seeing you on Monday!”
We are incredibly proud of Arabella and Lexi for turning their love for their brother into action, and we know the Pennthorpe community will get behind them with warmth and generosity.
Let’s get comfy for a cause and make a real difference together.
