At the end of a week devoted to ‘celebrating Pennthorpe’, I find myself once again heading into the weekend reflecting on just how incredibly lucky we are. Opening our doors to so many visitors over the past few days has reminded me that the things we see as ‘normal’ are, in fact, extraordinary to those looking in. What happens here every day really is something special.

Wednesday’s Open School event welcomed a number of families to Pennthorpe for the very first time. Children and adults alike were amazed to see a Goblin Race Car proudly perched outside the DT room, a ski‑fit exercise class taking place on the playground, and—of course—the entire school joining together for a joyful “Dance Yourself Happy” session at break time. For us, it’s just another Wednesday… but for our visitors, it was magical!

On Thursday evening we hosted a recruitment event for candidates interested in our three currently advertised roles, as well as teachers from the local area who had heard great things about Pennthorpe but never visited. Even at 7pm on a February evening, in a quiet school, the Pennthorpe spirit shone brightly. It was wonderful to see such genuine excitement from those exploring the possibility of joining our brilliant team.

Continuing with the theme of recruitment, we held our Reception teacher interviews today. Four excellent candidates spent the day with us for interviews and lesson observations. Once the appointment is confirmed, I will of course write to parents to inform you.

This week also marked a flurry of activity as we continue to establish our new partnership with Hurst. On Thursday, we took part in a collaborative photoshoot with their Director of Marketing and Admissions, Dianne Allison, to celebrate the joining of our two schools. On Wednesday, we welcomed Lloyd Dannatt as part of our Open School event, and on Thursday evening, Dominic Mott joined us for our Year 7 & 8 Information Evening. Today, Mr Barnett and Miss Cooper spent the afternoon at Hurst exploring how our Sports Departments can work together to broaden opportunities for our children; they have come back absolutely bursting with ideas already! It has been inspiring to see the immediate, positive impact this partnership is already having.
