This week, as we returned from the half‑term break, there was that unmistakable sense of ‘Pennthorpe Energy’ in the air. It always amazes me how quickly the vibrant rhythm of school life re‑establishes itself.
The children arrived back with the very same enthusiasm they left with; eager to reunite with their friends, keen to immerse themselves in their learning and to simply embrace being at their school – their community!
In the true spirit of embracing the very special community we share, I am delighted to announce that we will be launching the Pennthorpe Family Projects. I often speak on how fortunate we are to have such supportive, generous and engaged families. It is something that makes Pennthorpe distinctive and I would like to further strengthen and embrace this.
Running throughout the year, the Family Projects will appear in the calendar on a variety of dates; including some Saturday and Sunday mornings and after school sessions in the Summer Term – allowing as many families as possible to take part. Each project will offer a chance for the Pennthorpe community to collaborate, contribute and quite literally leave its mark on the school we all cherish.
We are currently in the latter stages of confirming our first two initiatives: ‘The Pennthorpe Farm and Forest Project’ and the ‘Library Revamp and Relaunch’. Both promise to be inspiring, hands-on ventures that will enhance the daily experience of our children while reflecting the creativity and care of our community.
There is a real sense of excitement around these developments, and I very much look forward to sharing confirmed start dates and projected timelines with you in the coming weeks.
This week, it was a pleasure to welcome both Lloyd Dannatt and Dominic Mott from Hurst to Pennthorpe. As we move into our second half term of the partnership, the relationship is already bringing real value to our school community.
Their ongoing support continues to bring fresh ideas and exciting new opportunities for our children. There is a genuine sense of momentum building, one rooted in shared ambition and I look forward to sharing these developments with you over the coming weeks and months.
I was honoured to welcome Mrs Lesley Corbett OBE for her second visit to Pennthorpe on Thursday. Lesley is a former Headteacher, Educational Consultant and school Inspector recognised with an O.B.E. for services to education. More importantly, she is an incredibly passionate educationalist whose unwavering focus is always, quite simply on the children.
During her visit, Lesley toured the school observed lessons and spent time talking to children and staff. Her warmth, insight, and genuine interest in our school made her visit a real highlight of the week. We are incredibly fortunate to have her working alongside us. She has already shared thoughtful insights and ideas that will help use to refine and strengthen our outstanding provision. I very much look forward to you having the opportunity to meet her in due course.
Our U11 girls travelled to West Hill Park School in Portsmouth this week to compete in the Independent Association of Prep Schools (IAPS) Small School Netball Tournament, where they faced some very strong opposition. The standard of play was high throughout the day, yet our team rose to the challenge superbly, demonstrating resilience, teamwork and great determination in every match. I am delighted to share that they finished second in the Plate competition, a wonderful achievement and a testament to their hard work and commitment to the sport. They represented the school with real pride, both on and off the court, and we congratulate them on an excellent performance.
Looking ahead, our Open Morning takes place next week, and the number of families registered is already extremely encouraging. Interest in the school continues to grow at an extraordinary pace, and we are very much looking forward to welcoming prospective families through our doors to experience the magic of Pennthorpe for themselves.
This year, Open Morning coincides with World Book Day! So, speaking to perspective parents with giant ears, turned up trousers and a snozzcumber, will be a new experience, but one I am very much looking forward to!
As the excitement builds for World Book Week, we will be releasing a series of teacher readings over the next 5 days so please do keep an eye on our social media channels. In advance of what I know will be a truly magical celebration of stories, creativity and the joy of reading, I would like to thank Mrs Partridge for all her hard work in preparing this.
