This week, our classrooms were alive with letters, laughter, and a fantastic buzz of excitement, as pupils from Year 3 to Year 8 took on our annual House Spelling Competition.
After classroom heats earlier in the week, the real drama unfolded in the Live Finals – and what a spectacle it was! From sudden death rounds to surprise tie break words, the morning delivered unforgettable moments and a celebration of language in its finest form.
Year 3 kicked things off with a tense and thrilling final. After a close contest, it was Yefim who held his nerve and claimed the title, impressing judges and audience alike with his calm focus and quick thinking.
In Year 4, the pressure mounted as spellers battled through a fierce competition. After some exceptionally tricky words, Lupe emerged victorious, earning a well-deserved win with style.
Year 5 delivered a showstopper, ending in a three-way tie – a rare and brilliant outcome! Congratulations to Annabel, Timmy, and Bertie for their shared crown. It was impossible to separate these superb spellers, even after 8 rounds!
In Year 6, we had another extraordinary result – a two-way tie between Pia and Katie. Both showed incredible skill and stamina, matching each other word for word in a brilliant final.
Year 7 followed suit with a thrilling head-to-head, resulting in another two-way tie! Hats off to Maisie and Orla, whose spelling prowess earned them a joint victory.
And last, but by no means least, Year 8 saw Hugo take the top spot with a flawless performance and calm confidence under pressure. Mr. Murray even needed to supply the tie-breaker words as both children completed the Year 8 Spelling List!
From start to finish, the morning was a celebration of perseverance, performance and plenty of school spirit. Our audience from Year 3 upwards were brilliant – clapping, cheering and supporting their peers every step of the way.
Congratulations to all our finalists and champions – your enthusiasm and effort made this a truly spellbinding event!
