We are thrilled to share some fantastic news about Pennthorpe’s future! From the start of the Spring Term 2026, Pennthorpe will officially become part of the Hurst family of schools, in partnership with Hurstpierpoint College.

This is a hugely positive step for our community. After careful consideration, both schools agreed that we share the same values, ethos, and commitment to providing an exceptional education. By joining forces, we’re securing Pennthorpe’s long-term future while opening up exciting opportunities for our pupils and staff.

What does this mean for you and your children?
Daily life at Pennthorpe will remain just as you know it – the same warm, nurturing environment, the same dedicated team, and the same ethos that makes our school so special. We’ll simply be known as “Pennthorpe – Part of the Hurst Family of Schools”, reflecting our new partnership and the benefits of being part of a larger, well-established group.

Richard Sharkey, our Chair of Governors, summed it up perfectly:
“This partnership secures Pennthorpe’s future while protecting what makes it unique. Hurst is a perfect fit – they share our commitment to inspiring and nurturing children and bring experience and strength that will support our long-term success.”

Karen Mack, Chair of Governors at Hurst, added:
“Many Pennthorpe pupils who move on to Hurst thrive and excel. This partnership will bring clear benefits for both schools and the wider community.”

The collaboration means greater financial resilience and stability at a time of change in the independent schools’ sector, while creating new opportunities for our pupils and staff. Dominic Mott, Head of College at Hurst, praised Pennthorpe’s outstanding education and said the school stood out early in Hurst’s strategic planning.

This announcement also comes as we welcome Jon Marler as Pennthorpe’s new Head of School. Jon shared his excitement:
“Pennthorpe and Hurst were the top two schools I most wanted to work with. I’m honoured to lead Pennthorpe into this next chapter while safeguarding everything that makes it so special.”

Pennthorpe will continue to have its own Board of Governors, and the Pennthorpe School Trust will remain responsible for safeguarding, performance, and strategy – ensuring continuity and stability.

Want to find out more? Join us at our Open Morning on Thursday 5 March! It’s the perfect opportunity to visit the school, meet our team, and discover what this exciting new chapter means for your family.

The partnership officially begins in Spring Term 2026 – and we can’t wait to share this journey with you.
