On Monday morning, Pennthorpe pupils from Year 1 to Year 8 came together for a truly special charity day, where Pallinghurst, whose house colour is blue, chose to Walk for Water in aid of WaterAid. It was a wonderful sight to see pupils and staff all stepping out in solidarity to raise awareness — and vital funds — for communities around the world who do not have easy access to clean water. So far, the event has already raised over £580, with donations still coming in!

The day began with excitement and a buzz of energy as the children arrived dressed in their home clothes, with blue being the colour of the day. From sky blue T-shirts to denim shorts and funny hats, the vibrant display reflected not only the water theme but also the spirit of unity that runs through our school.

Our walk took place along the beautiful Downs Link, a scenic and safe route that provided the perfect backdrop for our sponsored challenge. Pupils walked in groups, with children from Year 7 & 8 pupils proudly supporting and encouraging their younger peers. It was heartwarming to watch the friendships across year groups blossom even further, as they chatted, laughed, and kept each other motivated along the way.

At every stage, the sense of community shone through. Staff were on hand to guide the groups, provide encouragement, and celebrate each child’s effort. With the sun shining brightly and the countryside stretching out around us, it was a moment to reflect on how fortunate we are — and why initiatives like WaterAid are so vital.

Every step taken today symbolised our collective effort to make a difference. Access to clean water is something many of us can take for granted, yet for millions of people worldwide, it remains a daily challenge. Through sponsorships and donations, the funds raised by Pennthorpe will go directly towards helping WaterAid deliver clean water, decent toilets, and good hygiene to those who need it most.

We are incredibly proud of every member of the Pennthorpe School community for their enthusiasm, perseverance, and kindness. Events like today’s Walk for Water not only raise money but also deepen our children’s understanding of global citizenship and the power of working together for a greater cause.

Thank you to everyone who walked, sponsored, and supported this wonderful initiative. Together, we have made a real difference — and taken another important step towards a world where clean water is a reality for all.
