World Read Aloud Day is a special occasion that highlights the simple yet powerful act of sharing stories. At Pennthorpe, we marked this wonderful event by bringing together our older and younger pupils to celebrate the magic of reading aloud, during their Community Time.

Reading aloud offers numerous benefits for children of all ages. It’s not just about hearing words; it’s about experiencing them. This practice improves comprehension by allowing children to process language in real-time, expanding their vocabulary as they encounter new words in context. It enhances listening skills, helping children focus and follow narratives with greater attention and understanding.

One of the most heart-warming aspects of our celebration was the interaction between our Year 8 pupils and our eager Year 3 listeners. The older students took on the role of mentors, setting a wonderful example for their younger peers. This dynamic not only boosts the confidence of our Year 8 readers but also successfully creates a nurturing environment where Year 3 pupils felt encouraged and inspired.

The celebration of World Read Aloud Day wasn’t limited to our Year 3 and Year 8 pupils. Down in the Beehive, Mr Murray captivated our little Pennthorpians with animated storytelling sessions, sparking wide-eyed wonder and giggles of delight.

At Pennthorpe, we will continue to champion the joy of reading, knowing that every story shared aloud plants the seeds for a lifelong love of learning.
