Pennthorpe Means Tested Bursaries
A means tested bursary system offers potential financial assistance to pupils who might not otherwise be able to benefit from the education offered by Pennthorpe.
Eligible parents and guardians could benefit from a fee discount of up to 100% of the fees, depending on the individual circumstances of each applicant.
The amount of the Bursary award is not decided by the child’s level of academic ability but by the extent of financial need and Pennthorpe’s available resources. Any bursary awarded will be means tested on an annual basis.
If you would like further information on the Bursaries available or with regards the means testing, please contact the Bursary on firstname.lastname@example.org
Pennthorpe 11+ Braby Scholarships
Pennthorpe offers 11+ scholarships and bursaries to talented young people. The areas of talent which are recognised at age 11 for Year 7 entry are outlined below. In line with all IAPS schools, awards of up to 40% of full fees can be made and these can be supported (up to a total of 100%) by Bursaries where financial need is demonstrated. The number of awards given in each category depends upon the calibre of the applicants.
Braby Scholarships are available to pupils entering Year 7, whether those pupils be prospective or current Pennthorpe pupils. Named after Pennthorpe’s founding brothers Herbert and Sidney Braby, who moved the school to its current site in Rudgwick in 1948, the awards are given for excellence in any of the following areas:
- Design Technology
We value our scholars highly, looking to Braby Award holders to enhance the school community. By their attitude as well as their actions, they enrich the life of the school. We believe that any true sense of achievement comes from on-going application and our scholars’ lives should reflect both dedication and commitment as they give time and energy to their particular award areas, without detracting from their involvement in other aspects of the school. In this way they become role models for their peers, whilst making the most of their talents and learning lifelong lessons of leadership.
All external candidates who wish to apply would complete the school’s usual entrance procedures, including completing a Cognitive Ability Test, an interview with the Headmistress and attending a Taster Day.
Current school reports, confidential references and performance in an interview with the Headmistress or a member of the Senior Management Team, are also taken into consideration. All candidates need to demonstrate potential to apply for a 13+ scholarship to senior school.
