Friday 12th September was no ordinary evening at Duke of Kent School—it was a celebration of 50 years of community, sport, and spirit, marked by a thrilling netball tournament that brought together teams, families, and fierce competition under one sky.

Four dynamic teams took to the court: Duke of Kent FlyersDuke of Kent Pinks, the ever-spirited Cranleigh Mums, and the determined Pennthorpe Eagles. With 16-minute matches (two halves of eight), the format promised fast-paced action—and it delivered in style.

The weather? Surprisingly cooperative. The rain held off just long enough for the evening to unfold in full glory.

Match Highlights

Pennthorpe Eagles vs Cranleigh Mums
The Eagles started slow, trailing 9–3 at halftime, but came alive in the second half with slick passes and sharp shooting. Despite their comeback, Cranleigh Mums held firm to win 13–10.

This was a masterclass from Pennthorpe. From the first whistle, they dominated with seamless transitions and pinpoint accuracy, cruising to a 14–2 victory.

Facing the tournament favourites, the Eagles rose to the challenge. With grit and grace, they delivered a 9–4 win, proving their mettle in a high-stakes showdown.

 

The Grand Finale: Sudden Death Drama

With Pennthorpe Eagles and Cranleigh Mums tied on wins and goal difference, the tournament came down to a sudden-death shoot-out. Tension soared as both teams missed their first nine attempts. Then, in a moment of pure pressure and precision, Cranleigh Mums netted the winning shot, clinching the title in unforgettable fashion.

 

 Final Whistle

Though the Eagles narrowly missed out on the trophy, the evening was a triumph of teamwork, sportsmanship, and celebration. Huge congratulations to Cranleigh Mums, and a heartfelt thank you to Duke of Kent School for hosting such a spectacular event.
