A note from our new Librarian, Mrs Nicola Butcher

image description
I am delighted to be helping the children with their book selections and running literature-based activities in library sessions.

We also now have some new games for break and lunch times including the Dobble pictorial matching game and Shut The Box, great fun and for which quick-thinking arithmetic is required!  With so many great readers at Pennthorpe some well-loved books have started to be replaced with fresh copies.  New books are being introduced to the library such as Where the Sidewalk Ends by Shel Silverstein, Double Cross By Malorie Blackman, Princess Olivia Investigates: The Wrong Weather by Lucy Hawking.

A Word Meaning Tree is now standing in the library, awaiting more leaves! Each time a pupil looks up a dictionary word whilst reading in the library, they can complete a green leaf card with the word they looked up, it’s definition and their name and class, ready to hang on the tree.  Let’s load the tree up with as many words and definitions as possible!
