Relationships and Consent

As part of the RSE curriculum Year 8 have been learning about healthy relationships and consent. They had fun participating in the KitKat activity, which helped them to learn about giving and understanding consent. The pupils worked in pairs and were given a scenario of how to attempt to get the KitKat from each other, such as:

only being allowed to say the word no
only using non-verbal cues
being aggressive in their tone.

The pupils then discussed how they felt in each scenario, and how/if they had managed to get their KitKat, and what they could learn from it.

No means no. But sometimes that might not be the easy answer... I’d have to be impolite, an inconvenience, and sometimes awkward. But better to feel bad for a moment saying no – and stop it – than to get harmed. Insightful and straight talking Year 8 pupil
