Prep (7-13 Years)

The Wider Curriculum

The wider curriculum is diverse at Pennthorpe and children are encouraged to involve themselves in every opportunity. There is something for everyone at Pennthorpe Prep and our sole aim is to assist each individual child in discovering their strengths and passions by offering a wide range of activities for them to sample.

Day Trips:

Our Prep pupils have the opportunity to undertake a wide range of educational visits, which are not only exciting for our children but enrich their learning, encourage independence and help children access the wider world around them. Day trips range from theatre trips to railway walks, nature reserves and museum visits, and are linked to topics being studied in the curriculum at the time.

Residential Trips:

All Prep School pupils are encouraged to attend a residential trip during the year. As well as being great fun, these trips are designed to foster team work, initiative and leadership skills. Trips on offer range from visiting the battle fields of the Somme to the volcanoes of Iceland, outdoor pursuits in Snowdonia to skiing in the Alps.

Hobbies:

In Years 7 and 8, pupils are able to take part in our Hobbies Programme. Different activities are offered each term and pupils are able to choose which they would like to do. It can provide an opportunity to experience new things and mix with pupils from other year groups. Activities range from Green Team in the woods, to Five-a-side Football, to Photography or Music Technology.

Extracurricular Clubs:

There are a wide range of extra-curricular activities available for children in the Prep School. These range from lessons in music, dance and drama to fencing, photography and mountain biking. Everyone has the opportunity to try something new and discover their passions.
