Drawing pins were fixed onto different metals rods using melted candle wax, the rods are heated simultaneously and so the best conductor will melt the wax the quickest causing the pins to fall. Not very often that the lab is so quiet that you can hear a pin drop!
Obviously we all know that the best conductor is…Mr Yarrow!
