A Guide for Parents

.....putting the FUN into fundraising

Who we are

The Friends of Pennthorpe were formally established in 1997 by a group of parents to:

·         Provide a focus for social events within the school.
·         Raise funds for special projects for the school to enrich the lives of Pennthorpe children.
·         Donate a proportion of the funds raised to local children’s charities.
FOP, as we are known, is made up of a committee of class representatives from Honeypot to Year 8, therefore every class in the school is represented.  Class reps are predominantly Mums, however Dads do take part and are very welcome!  There are also two staff representatives. The committee elect an executive of Chair, Vice-Chair, Treasurer and Secretary who hold office for a minimum of one year and a maximum of three years.  The committee meets once every half term to agree and discuss the organisation of events and the allocation of donations to the school or nominated charities.  The meetings are a lively forum of discussion and provide the opportunity to swap ideas as well as the chance to meet with other parents. The cornerstone of the Friends of Pennthorpe is to have fun and promote social events within the school.

Come and Join Us

Each class has at least one representative who is on the Friends of Pennthorpe Committee – this ensures the work of FOP is cascaded to all parents.  FOP activities are also communicated via the Friends of Pennthorpe notice board outside the front of school, Clarion Call/Parentmail and the website. Being a FOP is about having fun!  As we host a wide variety of events – there is something for everyone!  Recognising we all have different strengths, interests and restraints on our time, FOP tries to ensure its members are utilised in the most efficient and appropriate way.  If you have a particular skill you would be prepared to share – please come along and join us!  If you don’t feel a ‘permanent’ role with FOP is for you, we always need help with the setting up and clearing away of events – this is a great way to meet other parents and to have some fun too!We also appreciate families with younger children find it difficult to make time for extra things, so please keep FOP in mind as you progress through the school and please feel free to come along to one of our meetings. We are always happy to welcome mums and dads as committee members at any time, therefore if you would like to speak to someone about getting involved please email fop@pennthorpe.com
