Putting the fun into fundamental

Welcome to Pennthorpe Independent Prep School

Matthew King
At Pennthorpe we believe in childhood.
At a time when schools so often surrender their individuality in the face of rigid testing and regulation, we feel passionately that children should be able to carry on doing the stuff that children ought to be doing, right until they leave us as young teenagers. Our aim is simple: we want childhood to last.We are understandably proud of our impressive academic record but, in life, true success demands broader qualities and values. Top marks are great, but they aren’t enough. A prep school education should be rigororous and challenging, but it must also be diverse, vibrant and, above all, fun. We want to develop individuals who stand out from the crowd in all the right ways but also know the value of the team; Young men and women who will move on from Pennthorpe as confident, well balanced youngsters, all-rounders in every sense.

Pennthorpe is an energetic, creative and inventive place. It’s a school that hates to stand still, and our ongoing commitment to the development of our campus means that every visit brings with it a new and welcome surprise. However, through all of this, some things never change. Pennthorpe remains a happy, Christian school where children feel valued, nurtured and inspired. From the games fields to the laboratories and from the Art and Design Centre to the Music School you’ll find children confidently expressing themselves, discovering new talents and enjoying their learning.

At Pennthorpe we want to make sure that childhood never loses its magic.

We hope this website will offer you a sound introduction to Pennthorpe and provide you with a taste of what makes it such a special place. However, don’t hesitate to swap the virtual world for the real one and pay us a visit.  You’ll soon discover why Pennthorpe’s pupils are so proud of their school and why we are so proud of them.
