Out and About

At Pennthorpe we have a well planned and comprehensive annual diary of outings and residential trips.  Our programme is designed to complement and enrich the academic curriculum, but also to give our pupils challenging, confidence building experiences.

Whilst the school has impressive teaching facilities and resources, we recognise that there is no substitute for the real world to encourage enquiry and enhance learning.

Opportunities exist for every year group to venture out beyond the school gates, from the Reception Classes' very first outing to the Bluebell Railway, all the way up to the week-long Year 8 Residential Field Study on the Isle of Wight.

Nor has Pennthorpe been deterred by today's risk-phobic climate from offering its pupils chances to test their metal in the great outdoors.  Our Pennthorpe Challenge programme, running through Years 6, 7 & 8, sees our boys and girls out under canvass, developing their teamwork and leadership skills with challenges ranging from preparing and cooking their own meals al fresco, to tackling a dizzying high-ropes assault course. For most, naturally enough, it is the cooking - and subsequent washing-up - that represents the most fearsome challenge!
