A sustainable vision
Pennthorpe's vision for curriulum development over the next five years is to continue to develop the highest quality teaching and learning opportunities for all pupils, guided by the principle of becoming a sustainable school that:
- cares for itself
- cares for others
- cares for the wider environment.
Pennthorpe recognises that sustainablility is a broad agenda which encompasses all aspects of school life. Understanding this 'bigger picture' will enable us to use sustainability as a vehicle to continue to deliver the highest quality educational framework for the future that will not only raise standards of pupil achievement, but also highlight the broader Every Child Matters agenda including health issues, safety, and making a positive contribution to a viable and sustainable future.
Pennthorpe has already taken the first steps on its sustainability journey in several areas, including recycling, composting, growing home produce, use of the school grounds for investigative environmental education, a green travel plan and other energy efficiency intiatives. The school is committed to continuing and building further upon these initiatives and has an action plan for implementation.
