Pennthorpe School internet policy

The school has robust filtering and monitoring software systems installed on its compurter network, designed to ensure safe Internet access for our pupils.

Safe use of the Internet also forms an important part of our PHSE programme.

In addition, the following Acceptable Use Rules are viewed and must be acknowledged by children every time they use a school computer.

  • I will use only my own network login and password, which is secret.
  • I will not try to access other people's files.
  • I understand that I must not attempt to install my own software.
  • I will at all times respect and take care of all computer equipment.
  • I will ask permission from a member of staff before using the Internet.
  • I will not consume food or drinks anywhere near a computer.
  • I will only email people I know, or my teacher has approved.
  • The messages I send will be polite and sensible. I will not attempt to send anonymous messages.
  • I understand that I must never reveal my home address or phone number, or arrange to meet someone on the Internet.
  • I will be very careful if I receive an email from an unknown source, especially if it contains an attachment.
  • I will not use any Internet Chat of any sort.
  • I will not attempt to download music or video from the Internet. Such activity may be illegal.
  • If I see anything that I consider to be unsuitable, or receive messages I do not like, I will inform a teacher immediately.
  • I will never do anything on the computers that I would feel embarrassed about if an adult were watching.
  • I understand that my activities on the computer may be monitored by a member of staff without my knowledge.
  • I understand that the school may check my computer files and may monitor the Internet sites I visit.

I understand that if I deliberately break these rules, I may not be allowed to use the Internet or computers. My parents may also be informed if I try to access unsuitable material.
